WellPet, a natural pet food company with operations in Mishawaka, has acquired WHIMZEES, a Netherlands-based maker of natural dental chews for dogs, according to a news release.
WHIMZEES joins WellPet’s other brands — Wellness, Holistic Select, Eagle Pack and Old Mother Hubbard — and represents the company’s first foray into the pet dental category.
“This is a major growth opportunity for WellPet, and an exciting one. Natural dental chews today represent a significant and fast-growing segment of the treats market, and WHIMZEES is an established leader in this category,” WellPet CEO Camelle Kent said in a statement.
Based in Massachusetts, WellPet is the product of a 2009 merger between Mishawaka-based Eagle Pack Pet Food and Wellness. The company is owned by an investment firm out of Philadelphia.
